Bin Weevils Toys And Games

Bin Weevil And Bot Figure PackEnter the world of the Bin Weevils. This is where children go to make up their own unique weevil to take up a home in the bin, which they then can develop and decorate through taking part in online games and challenges, and social activities with their friends. This has all translated into a series of collectable little toys – among others available in the Bin Weevils And Bot Figure Pack.

The figures in the pack is based on the online Bin Weevils game, where kids can safely go and interact with each other, and earn virtual money to spend on building their own little online world. The game is both entertaining and educational. The popularity of the game has resulted in a range of toys and collectibles.

Other toys worth mentioning are the Bin Weevils Deluxe Nest Playset, which will make a nice home for any collection of bin weevils, and the big Bin Weevils Figure Character Pack, which will give you a full collection of the little critters.

These Bin Weevil figures have two things in common. They are all well made – much better than other collection toys you see on the market – which comes in cheap tins and ends up lying round all over the floor once interest is lost. The Bin Weevils may even serve as a bit of fun decoration on a shelf in the kids’ room. The other thing is – they are quite pricey in comparison as well – but then, you get what you pay for.

Each of the Bin Weevil toys comes with a unique code, which will unlock various bonuses, characters and features in the online game. The two things paired up seems to go quite well together – so it might be worth more than a thought.

Certainly any Bin Weevil mad child in your family wouldn’t turn away the Bin Weevils And Bot Figure Pack – which would make an ideal stocking filler or top-up present for birthdays etc.

Peppa Pig Treehouse Playset

Peppa Pig Treehouse PlaysetMost kids will be familiar with Peppa Pig, her friends and family, and all the fun and games she’s up to through the short animated movies, currently showing on Milkshake on Channel 5. Also, several books and toys with Peppa has been brought out over the years – and the trend continues with the Peppa Pig Treehouse Playset from Character.

This set features Peppa Pig’s secret hideout, where she can go and spend some time on her own, and play on the swings and the slide that comes with the set as well. The set also includes a seesaw and a picnic table where Peppa can go for her lunch once she’s finished playing.

The set comes with a Peppa Pig playfigure, which you can only get with this set. Unfortunately there are no other figures with the set, so if you want Peppa to be able to play with her friends, Candy Cat & Suzie Sheep, like she does on the TV advert, you will have to buy them separately. This could potentially reduce the play-value of this set if your little one doesn’t have more figures already, but on a positive note it also helps keep the price of this set down, and gives you a choice.

The set is suitable for children aged 3 years and up – although most kids will probably loose interest once they get to the age 6 or 7. There is a small amount of assembling to do out of the pack – but nothing too stressful – and once you’re done, you’re done. It’s also scaled in size, so it will go well with other Peppa Pig Playsets, such as the Peppa Pig Playground Zip Line Playset and the Peppa Pig Kitchen Playset.

The playsets are made out of plastic – yet they are quite sturdy and well made – so they should stand up to several hours of fun and imaginative play.

If you have got a Peppa Pig mad child living in your house – or know someone who has – the Peppa Pig Treehouse Playset would make an ideal present, and is sure to make a little person very happy.

Mike The Knight Deluxe Glendragon Castle Playset

Mike The Knight Deluxe Glendragon Castle PlaysetMike The Knight is an animated TV series, currently running on CBeeBies, and hugely popular with children from three to six years of age (pre-schoolers). The popularity of the TV series has called for a series of toys to be released – one of the more popular ones being the Mike The Knight Deluxe Glendragon Castle Playset.

The set features Mike’s bedroom upstairs, and in the stables below we find Mike’s trusty steed, Galahad. The castle have a lot of hidden features, including a slide from Mike’s bedroom to the stables under Mike’s fold-away bed, and a secret treasure chamber under the stable floor. Also, the set includes a Mike The Knight and Galahad play figure.

The castle itself is very detailed with lots of printed coats of armor, certificates of knighthood and horseshoes on the walls. While a bit of assembly work is required, it should not be too difficult to put together at all. The set is scaled to the size of the other playset in the series, such as the Jousting Challenge Playset, the Glendragon Arena Playset and the Viking Longboat.

While the other playsets in the series are popular with kids as well – particularly the Viking Longboat – the Glendragon Castle Playset is the one reported to outlast the others in terms of imaginative play value. With the stories from the TV Series and the imagination that any child will put into their play time, there is plenty to go by.

The only slight let-down about this set is that it doesn’t include play figures of Mike’s dragon friends, Sparky and Squirt. They are, however, available to buy separately – or as part of the Jousting Challenge Playset. On a positive note – this move helps to keep the price on this playset down to an affordable level for everyone – so maybe it’s not such a bad idea.

In any case, if you have got an excited little Mike The Knight expert in your house, there is no doubt at all that they would be very happy if Father Christmas happened to leave behind a Mike The Knight Deluxe Glendragon Castle Playset behind – or even if one was bought for an upcoming birthday.

Lego Monster Fighters Vampyre Castle (9468)

Lego Monster Fighters Vampyre CastleLego Monster Fighters is a new – yet already quite popular series of building sets from Lego. The centre piece of the series so far is the Lego Monter Fighters Vampyre Castle – home to the vampyre, his bride and 2 man-bats. The vampyre has devised a plan to cover the whole world in darkness, so he and his companions can roam around freely at all times. We all know that vampyres can only operate in the dark – don’t we?

For this purpose he has collected all the moonstones at his castle, where he is preparing to execute his evil plan. The only two people standing between him and world power is Rodney Rathbone and Jack McHammer – both waiting to enter into the castle – and make their way through the maze of dangers, traps and secret entrances, to make sure the world will see another day.

This is the setting for this playset, and as you can see already, there is plenty of room yet to let the imagination of any Lego fan work through even more scenarios with this exciting set.

In the pack you’ll find the Vampyres Castle, complete with the moonstone device and a fantastic intricate design, but then you wouldn’t expect anything less from Lego. Also, there’s a hero’s car in the set with a net launcher to catch the vampyres and the man-bats (4 weapons included), and of cause 6 mini figures: Rodney Rathbone, Jack McHammer, the Vampyre, the Vampyre’s bride and 2 man-bats. Also included in the set is a number of glow in the dark stickers – which will really set the whole castle off – and make it look really scary once the light is out.

Anyone who has bought this set is singing its praises from the rooftops. It is not too complicated for kids to build and play with it, while adults and even elderly people can get a lot of enjoyment out of is as well. The recommended age for the set is from 9 years of age and up – but kids younger than that has been known to be able to put the set together without needing too much assistance.

To sum things up – if you have got a monster/vampire mad personality in your house, and looking for a set of Lego that will blow their mind away, there is no need to look any further. The Lego Monster Fighters Vampyre Castle is the answer to your prayers!

Rocky The Robot Truck

Rocky The Robot TruckRocky the Robot Truck from Matchbox has been around for a couple of years, yet has not been pushed on the UK market, so now that he’s appearing in the TV adverts, you could be tempted to think he’s a brand new toy. While that isn’t the case, that doesn’t detract for the fact that he makes a brilliant toy for little boys aged 3 and up, who are mad about construction toys.

Rocky belongs to the big rigs family from Matchbox, and much like his predecessors, Stinky the Garbage Truck and Smoky the Fire Engine, he’s an interactive toy that will do all sorts of things to entertain kids and adults alike. Aside from doing all the things you would expect from a dumper truck, he can react to things you do with a range of movements and things he says.

Put a heavy object on his back, and he’ll tell you, while also letting you know if the job you’re asking him to do is light work for a workhorse like him. When it’s time for a break – he can put on a show – dancing to his own music, and if you leave him alone for some time he will go to sleep with loud snoring noises.

He has over 100 different phrases in his vocabulary, such as “You’re The Boss” and “Whoa! That’s Heavy”, so there’s no chance your child will run out of entertainment for a good few hours. If they seem to get bored – he’ll even tell them a joke.

Rocky is suitable for children aged 3 and up – but the younger kids may have a bit of trouble working out how to get the most out of all his features. The ideal age for this toy is 5-6 years of age, although older kids and even adults have been known to be entertained by him. He will require 4 ‘C’ batteries to work, so make sure you have some handy when the ones supplied with the toy runs  out.

All in all – Rocky The Robot Truck is a great toy for boys (and girls) who loves construction site toys. He’s well built, so will stand up to hours of fun and games, even a bit of rough play. No doubt Rocky will make a great gift.

Fufris Funny Monkey

Fufris Funny MonkeyAlmost everyone enjoys having a good laugh. In fact laughter is infectious to such a degree that from time to time it is impossible to keep a straight face when others in the same room is laughing. Do you know anyone who needs a bit of help putting at least a smile on their face? Then you can get it from the Fufris Funny Monkey from IMC Toys.

At first glance the funny monkey – or any of its funny friends – looks just like a standard, run of the mill cuddly toy. It’s anything but! Press the button in its hand, and it will set out with a right belly laugh, rolling round on the floor, so it will take someone really grumpy to keep a straight face. In fact this could be turned into a bit of a party game during the Christmas holidays.

Now – if you have someone in the family who do keep a straight face rather well – the funny monkey has a medicine for that kind of thing as well. If will briefly stop the laughing and rolling round the floor – only to let a wind go – and then start laughing over again. It’s actually that hilarious that even watching the advert on TV or Youtube can set off.

Those parents who have bought a funny monkey for their kids already, are giving it rave reviews – in fact I have yet to find a negative comment about them – which is unusual for cuddly toys. Many people comment on how it has made everyone in the family have a really good laugh – from babies as young as 3 months – all the way up to 83 years of age.

One buyer even said that there was a danger that the included batteries might even be flat before Christmas morning, because they just couldn’t stop switching the thing on. So you might be well advised to stock up on AA batteries. The Funny Monkey takes 3.

Whether you are just looking for a stocking filler, or a cuddly toy that will put a smile on the face of everyone this Christmas, there is no way round buying the Fufris Funny Monkey from IMC Toys. It’s a surefire winner!

UPDATE 10.12.12: The Fufris Funny Monkey is, running ind and out of stock with most retailers. You may be lucky to find one at your local Argos Store – but it’s not very likely you will. This morning, however, they are available from Amazon. This has happened a few times over the last week – and they sell out again quicky – so if you want one, click here now. Before it’s too late!

Alternatively you can go for one of its “siblings” – the Funny Rabbit – the Funny Chicken or the Funny Pig. While they are good – they are just not the same though – and stock are running low on those as well. If you go on and “Like” the TopToysThisYear Facebook Page (use the link or the like button in the menu on the right or at the bottom of the page) – I will send out an update and keep you up to date with when the Funny Monkey is back in stock.

New Sony Playstation 3 Super Slim 12GB/500GB

Sony Playstation 3 Super SlimFor many it has probably slipped under the radar that Sony has released a new version of their Playstation 3 console – even if it is heavily rumoured that a brand new Playstation 4 is due to be released in 2013. In fact it’s that ‘secret’ that most retailers don’t stock them yet! But – let’s have a look at what is under the bonnet of the updated Sony Playstation 3 Super Slim consoles.

True to what Sony has always done, this version of the PS3 has been released in two versions, a ‘small’ and a ‘big’, and they are keeping to that this time around. The ‘small’ version is the Sony Playstation 3 Super Slim 12GB – and the big version is the Sony Playstation 3 Super Slim 500GB. The differences between the two we will get back to later – so read on.

The first thing you will notice when getting the new PS3 Super Slim out of the pack is that Sony has done away with the front-loading disc drive, and replaced it with a top-loading drive, much like they did when they slimmed down the Playstation 2. Not only has this move allowed them to slim down the console, but also, it makes them significantly cheaper to manufacture.

Back to the other thing – which sets the two versions apart – the size and make-up of the internal memory. Previously the PS3′s have come out with two different sizes of hard-drives, but now the ‘small’ model has had this drive replaced by flash memory (12GB), and this is what really sets the two new consoles apart.

The ‘big’ PS3 Super Slim is fitted with the biggest hard drive to date, boasting 500GB of space. Which version you choose is up to the way you plan on using the console.

If you buy the PS3 with a view to play games from discs only (and just have a few on the go at the time), the 12GB version will be adequate for your needs. If, however, you plan to use the fantastic multimedia capabilities of the PS3, using the online features and downloading/streaming movies over the internet, you will need to splash the cash for the 500GB version.

In saying that though – if you have a bit of technical know-how – you can buy the 12GB version and fit a hard drive yourself for less than the price difference. Whether it is worth it for you is your choice!

In any case, the PS3 remains the top-of-the-range gaming console on the market in terms of built-in features and multimedia capabilities. It doubles up as a Blu-Ray player – which no other gaming consoles do – so you do in fact get a full family entertainment centre with it.

Question is then – which one to buy? If you’re after a games console for the kids’ bedroom that will allow them to have 2 or 3 games on the go (saved) at the same time, go for the Playstation 3 Super Slim 12GB. If you’re looking to satisfy the needs of a hardcore online gamer, who needs many games going at the same time, and will download movies etc., you should choose the Playstation 3 Super Slim 500GB.

Barbie All Dolled Up Stardoll Brunette With Red Dress Review

Barbie All Dolled Up Stardoll BrunetteBarbie is a firm favorite year after year. This couldn’t be made more obvious than by the sheer number of new Barbie toys that are released all the time. Barbie’s makers are constantly looking for exciting new ways to present Barbie, and the latest is with the Barbie All Dolled Up line. This differs from standard Barbie products by being affiliated with Stardoll – an online fashion game for kids – resulting in this Barbie All Dolled Up Stardoll Brunette.

In case your child is a Barbie fan, then you’ll probably be on the lookout for a new Barbie toy this Christmas, and if so you might have come across the Barbie All Dolled Up Stardoll.

Stardoll is an online fashion game for kids that allows them to play with virtual dolls and try out all kinds of outfits. This Barbie is designed to fit in with the Stardoll styles and give your child the chance to see Stardoll outfits in real life rather than just on the screen.

The Stardoll outfits are all trendy, and the outfit on this Barbie is no exception. The dress on this doll is really beautiful and comes in a fantastic shade of red. It’s a great piece of design, and makes Barbie look really upmarket.

On top of the dress itself, this brunette Barbie has a range of other great features that make it stand out from the crowd. Firstly, the chain accents are really cute. They give a slight urban chic to the doll that doesn’t exist with standard Barbies. Another great touch with this doll are the fingerless gloves which, combined with the dress and chain accents, really make for a unique appearance. Topping it all off are the fashion tights as well as the dramatic eyelashes and cool make-up and hair.

As this isn’t the only Stardoll Barbie, it’s also possible to buy more than one and to mix and match outfits that allows your child to create their own funky styles.

Unfortunately, this doll isn’t ideal for regular play. It only has three points of articulation – the neck and arms. The legs and hips are completely rigid, which really limits the interactivity with this toy.

Another issue is that this doll isn’t designed to withstand rough handling. That means it’s not such a great choice for playtime if your child likes to put Barbie through accidents that regularly leave her in hospital!

That being said though, the Barbie All Dolled Up Stardoll Brunette is a really nice doll, and worth buying. Just remember that it’s better as a showpiece or for gentle kids than as a real plaything.

Fisher Price Amazing Animals Disney Sing Along Choo Choo Train

Fisher-Price Amazing Animals Disney Sing-Along Choo Choo TrainA couple of days ago I posted a review of the first baby toy on this site – so in order not to just have one stand alone baby toy – today we’ll be taking a look at the Fisher-Price Amazing Animals Disney Sing Along Choo Choo Train, which is anticipated to be one of the best selling baby toys for Christmas 2012.

This set has an amazing range of little learning features built into it – so it can be classed as much more than just a toy – it is also a learning centre, encouraging and developing different skills for babies and young toddlers.

The set includes the train itself, and 3 figures of baby-favorite Disney characters, each with their own special features. The train will, when pushed along, play one of over 15 sing-along songs and phrases from the Disney movies, and a light in the funnel on the engine will light up. All 3 cars in the train is themed according to the popular Disney stories, so Dumbo who rides the engine has a circus theme, Simba the Lion has a jungle themed carriage, and little Lucky is riding in the brake van.

Each of the three play figures have their own learning features as well. Dumbo and Simba has movable joints with clicking sounds, and textured fabric under their feet, developing your baby’s sense of sound and touch. Lucky will make rattling noises when shaken. In fact there are a much more learning features built into the Choo Choo Train than what meets the eye.

This toy is big and chunky, so ideally suited for young babies from 6 months of age and upwards. It’s very colourful as well, which is another thing that will attract interest from little ones. As you would expect for a toy from Fisher-Price, it is really sturdy, and should stand up to several hours of baby/toddler play, which we all know can be a bit of a rough ride at times.

The main complaint other customers have had about this toy is that it is quite hard to get out of the box – so not ideal if you just had your nails done. This is very much a minor thing though, when you think about the joy it’s going to bring. The train requires 2 ‘C’ batteries to operate (included) – and as a parent you’ll be pleased to know that it does have a volume control.

If you have a baby boy or girl in the right age group for the Fisher-Price Amazing Animals Disney Sing Along Choo Choo Train, this is a very good investment indeed. It has even shown that it can attract interest from older kids (siblings), so there is every chance this might make a popular Christmas – or 1st Birthday – present.

Hot Wheels Mega Loop Mayhem

Hot Wheels Mega Loop MayhemOver time, Hot Wheels have brought out a number of racetrack for their various series of cars, the latest being the Hot Wheels Mega Loop Mayhem. This is one of the bigger tracks, with lots of added action and more than 10 feet of race track, so there’s enough to keep the boys (of any age) in your house busy for quite some time.

The track itself has two racetracks, one blue and one orange, where up to four of the small Hot Wheels cars can be pitted against each other at any one time. As the track includes 3 separate crash zones, where either or both of the cars racing each other at that stage can come off the track, making timing of the launch and choice of car essential – so some effort will have to go into choosing the right strategy.

Now – the cars would struggle to make their way through the track just off the launcher – so there are two motorised speed boosters along the track as well to help speed things up.

Oddly enough, the track is designed with two racing tracks as mentioned above, but it only comes wit one car. This is exactly one of the complaints you’ll hear from people who have already gone ahead and bought this set, and to be quite honest they do have a good point.

Among other complaints is the fact that the track is making a lot of noise, so you need to be prepared for that. If you’re looking for a nice, quiet toy to keep the Christmas peace, this is not it! Also, you’ll need to make sure you stock up on batteries for the speed boosters, as the track will not work that well without them. It requires 4 of the big D batteries.

Overall the pro’s about this toy far outweighs the con’s – kids love it – and at the end of the day that is what counts the most! If you have a Hot Wheels mad child in your house there is no doubt that the Hot Wheels Mega Loop Mayhem will go down an absolute treat. Whether it’s a good place to start getting your child into this kind of game is up to your judgement.
